Bunk beds are commonly used in children’s room as a measure to save space. Since the majority of bunk beds are used for children, it makes shopping for them a bit trickier. There are more safety considerations to make. There are other things to take into consideration when selecting your child’s bunk bed.
One thing you must first be aware of is the size of the space where you will be putting the bunk bed. Take the time to measure the space in the room where you want a bunk bed. Remember not only to measure the space on the floor, but also the height of the ceiling. This is important because you don’t want a bed that is too close to the ceiling. A good rule of thumb is to allow at least two feet of space between the top of the bunk bed and the ceiling. Buying a bunk bed with less clearance will cause bumps and just didn’t functional. On average, most bunk beds measure anywhere from 5 to 6 feet tall. Make sure there is enough floor space for the bunk bed. This is especially true if you purchase a bunk bed with drawers underneath. You have to have room to allow these to open.
When buying a bunk bed, you also need to know what kind of bunk bed you want or need. They can vary in size or be a combination of sizes with a larger bed on the bottom than on the top. You might want a loft bunk bed to have the bed in the air while saving room underneath for other furniture or purposes. There is the most common bunk bed with two single beds but there are also double bunk beds.
Inspect a bunk bed carefully before you purchase it. Make sure that it is sturdy and safe for your child. Bunk beds should have built in safety features. These would include guardrails to keep the child from rolling off of the top bunk onto the floor. Headboards and footboards are also advisable for the same reason. Check to make sure the ladder or other method of gaining top bunk access is safe and well affixed to the frame of the bunk bed. Carefully shopping will provide you child with a safe place to sleep.
