5 Contradictions That Will Make You A Better Leader
April 25, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Leadership doesn’t have a nice little set of rules. Everything that is promoted as a “rule” that has to be followed to become a leader can have many interpretations. In fact, the complete opposite of what the rules say can be as useful as what the original says. That is what this article is about: Contradictions that appear to be mutually exclusive, but really aren’t. These contradictions will make a better leader of you if you put them in practice:

Success Requires You Take Your Weaknesses Seriously
April 18, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Do you get depressed when you meet an obstacle, and toss in the towel? Are your goals unrealistic, making them impossible to reach? Or do you start projects, but don’t finish them? These weaknesses oftentimes derail your goals.
Dr. Cloud, a noted Christian psychologist, explains on his CD, “Quarantine Your Weaknesses”: “We are meant to be successful in life. In order to do that, our personal weaknesses need to be isolated from our strengths as we head towards our goals.”
However, the most common reaction to our shortcomings is to try harder. Let’s say, for instance, it’s difficult for you to finish what you start. Oftentimes, we delude ourselves by saying,” I know the boss complains about my late reports, but if I try harder this time, I know I can finish, and turn it in on time.” But patterns always rear their ugly head, and block our most sincere desires. Once more our report is late, and we suffer the consequences.

How To Self-coach Using A Powerful Request
April 8, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Self-Coaching is an interesting approach to use when working to achieve a major goal. In particular, using the coaching technique of making a “powerful request” of yourself can be very motivating. If you are fortunate enough to also work with a professional coach, it can be life changing!
This article looks at how I used the “powerful request” as a self-coaching technique back in 2005. I was then in the preparation stages of making a major career change out of the corporate world I had inhabited for almost 20 years.
My powerful request to myself at that time was:
Begin working with my own coach from 10 November 2005 on living more of my “ideal life”, which is based on the “If I had 12 months to live” question.

Did you know that regardless of the situation you are in, you always have three choices that, when exercised, will instantly give you freedom and power? Many people are not aware of the three choices. This is unfortunate, because without the three choices, you can be snared into using your personal power unproductively. This applies to relationships of all kinds in our business and personal lives.
Sample Problem: You feel frustrated, angry, disappointed, resentful, betrayed, or hurt.
The Red Flag: When you are “hooked” by these attitudes, thoughts, and feelings, you hemorrhage power and energy that could be applied to helping you achieve your business, personal, or relationship goals! If you suppress the feelings or try to hide them (which is what most of us do), it will only be a matter of time before the power leak finds its way to the surface and you vent it on someone. Most likely it will be vented on a loved one or an unsuspecting staff member or colleague.

7 Steps To Taking Control Of Your Time
March 27, 2008 | Leave a Comment
One of the biggest obstacles to business success is allowing yourself to feel at the mercy of time.
It’s too easy to say “I don’t have time” but you choose how to spend your time and you can spend it wisely or badly.
Here are 7 ways in which you can take control of your time.
1. Stop inputting and start outputting
It’s easy to be busy taking in new information and ideas but it’s only taking action on them that gets results. If you’re inputting information, you’re not outputting real work and making money. If you’re an info junkie, perhaps you need to go on an info diet.
2. Always remember why you are doing it

What Are You Planning To Achieve By The End Of The Year?
March 16, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Fast forward yourself to the end of December and as the year closes, how are you feeling about your achievements during this past year? Really get in touch with your feelings, live them, breathe them and don’t let them pass by. Are you feeling any disappointment, regret or frustration for the things you haven’t done or achieved? Do you find yourself thinking, “This past year has flown by and what have I done”, “There is so much more that I wanted to do” or “Why haven’t I done the things that I’d said I’d do”.
Now bring yourself back to today. You still have time before the end of the year to get on a track to achieving what you want. Imagine starting the New Year knowing that you’ve been consistently moving in the right direction and will continue to take the necessary actions.

Passion - More Than Dayime Television
March 14, 2008 | Leave a Comment
How often do you hear the word passion? What context is it usually in?
Have the times become so dismal that the only time we hear the word ‘passion’ is on daytime television and bath products?
The exact reason is unknown but somehow, somewhere along the lines of time people began to settle. They settled for less than passionate careers, less than passionate relationships and they settled for less than passionate lives. Then, to make everyone else feel like they are normal, people began to introduce idioms that justified their passionate-less, mediocre lives. They began telling their children, friends and family things like, “You can’t always get what you want” or “Life isn’t supposed to be easy!” Maybe you have heard; “You can’t have your cake and eat it too!”
