Tips For Students To Manage Their Stress
July 15, 2010 | Leave a Comment
“Mom, I'm, too sick to go to school today.” We joke about feigning illness to avoid school, but the illness is not always feigned. Stressors that students face each day can be just as detrimental as those faced by their parents. Yet stress management for students is not as readily available as is stress management for adults.
Charts purporting to show “who is affected by stress” list occupations. On a scale of 1 to 10, police officers rate 7.7 and teachers rate 6.2 – but students are not rated. “Student” is not considered an occupation. Online searchers type in a phrase such as “teachersjob + stress reduction” and get a fair response. Type in “stress management for students”, and the response is far less.

Travelling in the Fields of Forever

A phone call interrupted my reverie. It was Gideon asking if I'd had an interesting morning. I blurted out the incident of the birds and the books and the paper and the music and whatever else I could recall. I commented how curious it seemed that dreams of yesteryear could leap across the crevices of time onto the pages of today.
“When you think about it, John,” he said, “there really is no past nor future, no beginnings nor endings,just the ones that we create in our minds depending on our current perspective. A thousand lifetimes in a million years or a million lifetimes in a thousand years,what does it matter, anyway? We've always been alive.”

Positive thinking is a mind frame which expects happiness, joy, health and a successful outcome of every situation. When this belief is so powerful, this expectation is always reached by that individual. With positive thinking many people fear this because they dont want to build themselves up for a big win, only to find that they sink to a greater low, when they lose. This attitude may be influenced by past experience, where a person may have taken many knocks in their lifetime i.e. lose of job, failed relationships or unsuccessful marriages. Therefore, these people have the tendency to always fear the worst outcome of every situation. Every time this negative cycle is reinforced, expectations are lowered and negative outcomes are generated. But we can reverse negative thinking by doing the following;

Teenage Dating Violence: What are the Types of Teenage Dating Violence?
June 27, 2009 | Leave a Comment
Teenage dating violence is not uncommon; almost a third of teens in the U.S. experience some type of abuse in their relationships. It follows the typical patterns that adult abusive relationships follow with repeated violence which gets worse every time. The abuser feels remorse and says they are sorry with promises to change, but the violence continues and the pattern continues. There are three main types of dating abuse: verbal and emotional, physical, and sexual.
Verbal or emotional abuse is about the abuser trying to gain control of the victims feelings or behaviors, as are all of the types of abuse. It instills fear in the victim and erodes their self worth and self esteem. Verbal and emotional abuse includes yelling, name calling, put downs, embarrassment, intimidation, and/or the spreading of rumors. It can make the person feel responsible for their abuse, as their abuser controls their actions and behavior. The victim feels trapped in the relationship, and is so manipulated that they fear ending the connection.

How Can I Trust Myself in Dating Ever Again?
June 13, 2009 | Leave a Comment
Dear Ms. Ruth,
Sorry, I am not one for formalities; but the heading just sounded right! LOL. I am actually wondering if/when I will be able to actually see the guys Im interested in for who they are?
I dated a guy for three years when I found out that he was a porn addict. As you could imaginemy trust issues; not to mention my self esteem, had been tossed in the trash!
My Response:
Many people ask themselves after a break-up why they were so deluded to get involved with someone who eventually turned out to be really unhealthy. Along with that comes the ubiquitous Self-Critic that is getting her chance to really rag on you and she goes for it! That inner critic is calling you names like: Stupid, Dumb, Idiot. Boy " that is fun.

There seems to be very few things that can hurt a parent more than having their child picked on by other kids. Protect your child and do not let a bully destroy their self-esteem.
Parents: Are you afraid your child is the victim of a bully? Do you recognize the signs?
* Comes home with torn or damaged clothing, destroyed or missing materials
* Has unexplained cuts or bruises
* Has few friends that he/she spends free time with
* Doesn’t want to go to school or participate in extra school activities
* Isn’t doing well in school
* Seems sad or detached
* Doesn’t sleep well at night
* Loss of appetite

Low Self-esteem And Work Related Problems
May 2, 2008 | Leave a Comment
If you’ve taken the time to look at a couple of people who are successful, you usually tend to see that they are brimming with self-confidence in the way they think about themselves and what they can achieve. In order to see yourself for who you truly are and what you can achieve you need to exhibit a strong sense of self-esteem.
People who fail to do so often end up failing to succeed and being stepped on by other people in the workplace. Bold, self-confident people exhibit the necessary authority and command the respect people who are entrusted with responsibility require. People with low self-esteem may have the necessary qualifications to be the ones in charge but their lack of self-confidence deprives them of the chance for others to see them for who they really are.

How To Give Yourself A Quick Confidence Boost
April 28, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Everybody can do with an quick and easy way to increase their self belief or self confidence sometimes. This is a little method you can use when you are feeling down or need a kick up the backside.
- Make a 30 second speech in your head imagining you are trying to convince someone about the quality you need. This is off the cuff, do it now. Right this second.
- Do a quick 1 minute review of what you said and think of the things you really need to add but missed the first time around.
- Make the speech again (30sec), this time do it out loud and include the new ideas.
- Pause for 1 minute and think how to add some more bang using power words and words of action. You want to use words with movement and strength (like build, create, slash, revolutionize, energize)
- Make the speech a last time for 30 seconds out loud and add in the power words and the bang.
When you do this you can get yourself really pumped up, your mind will go into overdrive and genuinely start to convince yourself of these things. Soon the reality will match your dream as your mind does its job.

Coaching is a modern and rapidly growing method for helping others to improve, develop, find personal success, achieve aims and manage life change and personal challenges. Life coaching is effective for all situations, whether in personal life, career, sales or corporate and business life. Coaching draws out rather than puts in. It develops rather than imposes.
So lets say you decide to try a session of life coaching just to see what it is all about. Here is a little of what you can expect.
The role of your life coach is to:
1. Support and encourage you. They are not there to impose their values on you. They are there to support and encourage you to reach your daily action steps and in time to see your long term goals fulfilled.
