Home Business Means Knowing When to Say “No”

When friends and family find out that you work at home, a picture pops into their minds pretty much immediately. It might be of you lazing about, or maybe of you teaching them how to do what you do. It's not often a realistic picture. People just generally feel free to make demands of people who work at home that they wouldn't consider making of other people. They want your time or services. They don't understand what you do or how important it is that you keep working. Some people will just come up to you and ask if you can (fill in the blank, but keep it clean) for them. Maybe it relates to what you do at home or maybe they just want a babysitter for their kids. In any case, it's probably completely ignoring the value of your time. These are the things you have to learn to say “no” to. No, you won't create a free website for them. No, you don't have the time to watch their kids for them for no pay. No you won't (fill in the blank. Are you still keeping it clean?). Yes, sometimes you can decide to give someone a freebie. If you do this, make sure you explain what you normally charge, and that you won't keep doing it for free. You need to build respect for what you do at home. The other challenge is idle chitchat during your best working hours. It may be retired neighbors, a fellow stay at home parent, a friend taking a break during their work day, etc., but they eat up time you'd rather be working. Talk to them about the times that you are able to just sit and talk. Especially if you have young children, your work hours may be sharply limited. You cannot tolerate losing too much work time. Hard as it may be, demanding respect for your working hours can build respect for what you do at home. It takes a long time for most people to understand that working from home is real work. The more you demand that they respect what you do just as they would if you worked outside the home. Even with these challenges, make sure you make the most of being able to work from home. Enjoy yourself. Talk about what you do just as other people talk about their jobs. Enjoy the ability to be closer to your family, even when you have to sacrifice and work more hours at home than you'd ideally like to. You're very fortunate. You can do something many only dream of. Earning money from home is something very, very special.

Many Home work Which You Work at Home

There are a lot of challenges to working at home. You have a lot to get accomplished in the day and many distractions. It's easy to have very high expectations of what you will accomplish on a particular day, and it's not always realistic. Worse, you probably feel guilty at times for focusing on work rather than on keeping a clean house. You're home and you may feel like it's a part of your job to keep that house clean. Traditional duty of the stay at home parent (especially moms) and all that. But being at home should not mean that it all falls onto your shoulders. You need to look at what the appropriate divisions are. The struggle often comes from it being unclear how you should divide the work up. If you feel like you aren't contributing because your home business isn't bringing in much money yet, you're going to feel bad if the hours you work keep you away from keeping a perfect house. Yet you can be working long hours trying your best to make it work, and simply not have the time or the energy to do it all yourself. I know I'm good at giving myself a guilt trip every time the house is a mess and I feel that I'm too busy to clean it up. Sometimes I think feeling guilty is simpler than feeling good about what I've achieved. After all, I can always compare myself to people who are doing better. Somehow it seems to be easier for most of us to compare ourselves to those who do better than to recognize what we have achieved. There are all the things we dream about accomplishing, after all. Looking at what others have managed to do as we struggle along is just the way things go. One thing all families should do is figure out who will be responsible for what. Working in or out of the home shouldn't matter as much as the fact that one is working. That's not always the reality of people's expectations, but it's a nice goal. Get your spouse involved. Get the kids involved. Don't let all the housework fall on one pair of shoulders. Figure out what you will do at which times. Housework that needs to be done can be scheduled just like anything in your home business. How well all of this works can tell you a lot about how supportive your spouse is of your working at home. If you both work a similar number of hours, yet you're at home and expected to do a significantly larger chunk of the housework, you may need to have a talk to make sure that what you do is being taken seriously. Sometimes it's not. Other times it will just be that your spouse hasn't quite realized how much work you're doing. And if you're earning enough and feel so inclined, hire a maid service to come once a week or so to do some of the heavy duty cleaning for you. This can be really helpful. If you're earning enough it will be well worth the money. Sometimes it's worth it even if you aren't earning that much but need a break from feeling like you need to get that housework done. There are a lot of stresses that come from working at home that other people don't always recognize. The part of it related to a clean house can be controlled somewhat with a little effort.

So you want to own a home business. Maybe an online internet business. Why not, you’ve heard all the promises…$1,000 a week stuffing envelopes, $10,000 a month Brokering Notes, $28,000 in days, not weeks…simply returning phone calls, Make $4,280 a month to simply shop at home, $4,000 cash first 2 days. You get the picture.

I read these ads right off of “Home Business” August 2007 magazine. There’s a lot of hype and promises out there. Maybe you have gotten involved in some of these companies and realized, after you spent your $1,000 or more to join, it really wasn’t as easy as they said, plus they didn’t have a system.

Have you ever thought about all the positive benefits about working from home? I have never been so happy and stress free since I decided to hang up my hat in the work place and start my own profitable business working from home.

I am a budding author and public speaker and I love to write so it made sense that if I could make money doing the very thing I love to do, that would be an exceptional outcome for me.

Good Work At Home Websites

With some many websites and blogs and trillions of Web pages on the Internet it is sometimes hard to find the sites that offer more information than ads. Below are a few sites I am familiar with and the reasons why I recommended them.

Good Forum

WAHM
There are numerous ideas here for those who want to work from home. While some may find WAHM (Work at Home Mom) to have too many ads, its forums are very useful for those just getting started in working at home. The large message board offers forums for freelance writers, Web designers, and bloggers. There are also specific forums for those involved in various direct sales businesses such as Avon, Pampered Chef, Shaklee, Mary Kay and Ameriplan. For those interested in telecommuting jobs there are sections for virtual assistants, transcriptionists, and customer service reps. Some forums easily go off-topic and few of the regulars seem to care. Many posts are of the “how do I get started” nature and the responses are generally helpful.
